ROSAT/Optical Observations of the X-ray Binary 2S0114+65
Abstract
The X-ray binary system 2S0114+65 is composed of an ~ 15Msun primary of spectral type B0.5 and luminosity class II-III and a compact secondary, presumably a 1.4Msun neutron star. Recent work utilizing results from EXOSAT, Ginga, and the ROSAT all-sky survey has shown that X-ray flaring which is observed in the system is describable by a 2.78 hour period. It was suggested that the underlying clock may be the radial pulsations of the B0.5II star resulting in periodic mass loss. This system was observed during the summer of 1992 for ~ 16,000 seconds with the PSPC onboard ROSAT in the 0.1-2.4 keV X-ray band and in the optical band for 2 nights at Kitt Peak. Results of the X-ray observations and the optical photometry will be presented.
